Dear Vietnam Veterans,

I would like to thank you for giving your life to keep this country free. I now know that freedom is not free and that sacrifice is necessary in order to obtain and maintain freedom. You are true heroes. Someone who fights for their country or what they believe in. That's what a true hero is.

1. It shows that they were pulled into the war one way or another. I think some of the native Vietnamese will be taken back to America and become "americanized".

  • He has to play dead
  • he has to sleep while Vietnamese are firing at him
  • He has to kill men
  • He has to care for his fellow troops
  • He has to see men die in front of him

2. At first he somewhat supported the war but after seeing all his friends die and after losing he is angry because he doesn't see a point to all the death.

3.He's asking them to fight for the US. He's asking them to kill the vietcong and win. He's asking them to send your children to vietnam to die.

4.

  • To have your boy come home in a box

1.Dubious means doubtful and a crusade is a holy war.
He is saying that Vietnam did not have a lot of support. I think this will be a common theme throughout the war.

2. The overall theme was death following vietnam. Change was another theme as well.

3. The incident that brought us into Vietnam has always been contreversial.
It allowed President Johnson to defend American ships from Vietnamese attacks. Some say that Johnson made a mountain out of a mole hill to send troops to vietnam. It relates because Johnson didn't have very much support to do this and the war wasn't very supported either.

Over the past 23 years total african american enrollement has increased drastically. It went from 8,251,000 in 1980 to 10,971,000 in 2003. In 2003 59% of african americans anrolled in school while only 55% percent whites enrolled.

African americans have a much higher percent of high school drop outs compared to whites. 4.5 percent of blacks drop out in highschool while 3.7 percent of whites drop out. African americans may have a higher percent of their population enrolled but their dedication lacks.

My suggestion is to make highschool manditory so the percent of both black and white drop outs decrease. Schools should also include more black history in order to keep blacks interested in school.

Why does the author feel that whites owe King the greatest debt?

Whites owe him the most because he made the U.S. the leader of the free world without any doubts or disbeliefs.

Was King "the right man at the right time"?

He was the right man at the right time because he was extremely courageous, he stood strong for his beliefs, and was a minister which gave him influence in the african american church which was one of the most powerful black institutions.

Would King be upset with the current use of his most often quoted line? Why or why not?

I don't think King would be upset as long as they were using it to help something they strongly believed in and would fight for.
